Trigeminal Neuralgia due to Vertebrobasilar Dolichoectasia

چکیده
We presented a case of drug-resistant trigeminal neuralgia attributed to vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia, a rare condition characterized by enlargement, tortuosity, or elongation of intracranial arteries. Dolichoectatic vessels can cause dysfunction of cranial nerves through direct vascular compression. The relationships of vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia with the particularities of neurovascular conflict and images findings are discussed.

Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia as a cause of trigeminal neuralgia: the role of microvascular decompression. Case report.
Our purpose is to report a case of trigeminal neuralgia caused by vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia treated with microvascular decompression. A 63-year-old man sought treatment for a recurrent lancinating left facial pain in V2 and V3 trigeminal territories. The computed tomography angiography revealed a mechanical compression of the left trigeminal nerve due to vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia. The...

E-mail: [email protected] Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) is an anatomic variant that consists of enlargement and dilatation, often associated with a tortuous and elongated vessel. The anomaly is probably due to a marked thinning of the internal elastica lamina and media, most likely as a consequenc...
متن کاملUnilateral trismus in a patient with trigeminal neuralgia due to microvascular compression of the trigeminal motor root.
To our knowledge, only one prior case of trismus due to vascular compression has been reported. This was caused by vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia associated with multiple cranial neuropathies and was not treated surgical1y.t We report a case of unilateral trismus associated with typical trigeminal neuralgia, refractory to medical therapy, alleviated by microvascular decompression. The relevant ...
متن کاملAnatomoclinical features of trigeminal neuralgia caused by vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia
Vertebrobasilardolichoectasia (VBDE) is a rare cause of trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The size and tortuous course of the offending vessel poses a particular challenge when attempting a surgical treatment with microvascular decompression. There are few reports on the radiological and surgical anatomy encountered in this condition. The anatomical and radiological features of a surgical series of 7 ...

The usual outcome of rudimentary horn pregnancy is rupture in second trimester in 90% of cases.[1] Early diagnosis of this rare form of pregnancy prior to rupture is essential for successful management in order to prevent maternal morbidity and mortality.[2] Though uterine anomalies can be suspected on bimanual or ultrasonographic examination,[2,3] these can be diagnosed in only 14% cases befor...
